Hello, my name is Penny, I am the owner and Manager of ABC Family Nursery which I opened February 1998. We were the first non-workplace nursery in Hastings and St Leonards that had a baby unit, now there are approximately 10 non-work place nurseries that provide a baby unit, however a couple of them do not accept children under the age of 1 year. The nursery origonally was on the ground floor of my house, offering 20 places per day, however in April 2000 we purchased a deralict church hall of which we spent nearly 18 months transforming it into a state of the art day nursery, in November 2001 we closed the doors at 6pm on a Friday and the following Monday at 7am we opened the doors at the new venue, which is where we still are.
Our aim is to provide a happy homely atmosphere for the children by respecting each child as an individual together with sensitive and appropriate intervention, which will lead to positive, social and emotional growth in young children.
A number of people ask if we chose ABC because it puts us near the top of the phone book, but infact it stands for
Activity Based Childcare.
Now 10 years on we have maintained our Learn through play ethos, and our freindly, homely atmosphere. The design of the nursery is to be as flexible as needed for the children in our care, with 3 main play rooms, 2 of which are 60m2 and one which is 115m2, we are able to equip the rooms to offer an extensive range of activities for the children plus the with our prinicple that we offer almost double the recommended floor space per child, ensures that the children have plenty of space to move and explore at their own pace. With a car park, large secure garden, meals cooked fresh on site, plus our new biometric entry system enabling registered parents free access to the main play rooms when their child is in attendance we have been able to create a relaxed environment for parents, children and our team.
I have constructed this website to give you as much information as I can, however we do recommend that you pop in to see the nursery and meet the team, no appointment required, we just ask for you to avoid the lunch hour (12 - 1).
I look forward to meeting you soon
Penny
